Space, check! Soil, check! Tools, check! But what about the plant, is it ok?
Deciding the right plant to grow goes far beyond choosing which one is the most beautiful.
See the five tips we have for you.
Before you even get your hands dirty, you will need to pay attention to other important precautions when deciding to have a garden. Defining a location is a decisive step towards a satisfactory planting experience. This location will tell you which plants are suitable for the space you have chosen.
If your space is exposed to constant sunlight, for example, you will need to identify species that need that exposure.
Our Agronomist at Culltive, João Pacheco, explains that each plant requires different care and, therefore, it is advisable to follow a pattern of species to share the same space. “In general, each family of plants has species with similar characteristics and, therefore, they can show full development by sharing the same space and getting the same care. The mixture of species can occur, but we have to know that the existing conditions can benefit a single species more than the other”, he explains.
João also points out that if you want to mix your plants, it is essential that a basic fertilization is carried out so that the development of the chosen species is beneficial.

Tip on how to read the spacing: 4 inches x 2 inches - you should read read as follows: 4 inches between lines and 2 inches between plants;
🍀 Tip3: Is the climate in your region too low or too high? From that answer you will know which species to plant in your garden. There is a range of species that tolerate cold winters and others that tolerate hot summers. Most vegetables can be grown in the 53 to 77° F temperature range.
🍀 Tip 4: Plants need hours of light to grow. The ideal is to verify the need for light of the species chosen to compose your garden. In general, vegetables need at least 6 hours of sunlight.
